Most problems come down to one of four causes: the work order was never completed, a rate could not be resolved, a change happened that does not trigger recalculation, or a user is missing a license or role.
A completed work order has no margin
- Confirm the work order's System Status is Completed. Margins are created at completion, not before.
- Confirm the work order has at least one cost entry. A work order with no entries produces a margin of zero revenue and zero cost.
- If the status was set to Completed by a bulk update or an integration, re-complete it from the form to trigger the calculation.
A labor cost entry will not save
The rate could not be resolved. Check that:
- the Resource, Work Date, and Shift Band are all set on the entry;
- an active rate card whose effective dates include the work date has a line for that resource and shift band;
- there are not two overlapping active rate cards with a matching line, and the card has no duplicate lines.
The error message names the resource, date, and band it was looking for. See Create a rate card.
The margin did not update after I changed something
Margins recalculate when the work order is completed and when a warranty claim on a completed work order is created or changed. They do not recalculate when cost entries are added or changed after completion, when a rate card changes, or when an overhead rule changes.
To pick up any of those changes, re-complete the work order: change its System Status away from Completed and back again. See Read a work order's margin.
An agreement margin looks stale
Agreement totals are re-summed only when one of the agreement's work orders is recalculated. Re-complete one of its work orders to refresh the roll-up.
A user cannot open the app
Confirm the user has both a Job Margin 365 license, assigned in the Microsoft 365 admin center, and one of the three Job Margin 365 security roles, assigned in the Power Platform admin center. Either one alone is not enough. See Roles and permissions.
A user can see rate cards but cannot edit them
That is by design for the User and Read Only roles. Only Job Margin 365 - Setup can change rate cards and overhead rules.
